Summary

To Rory Yates being a Texas Ranger is about justice, but all of that changes when he is brought to a small southern town to help uncover the mysteries behind a local woman's death - only to discover corruption and lies。
Texas Ranger Rory Yates is not keen for hero status。 But it's unavoidable once his girlfriend, country singer Willow Dawes, writes a song about his bravery。 Rory escapes his newfound fame when he's sent to the remote West Texas town of Rio Lobo, a municipality with two stoplights。 And now, according to the Chief of Police, it has one too many Texas Rangers。
Rio Lobo Detective Ariana Delgado is the one who requested Rory, and the only person who believes a local councilwoman's seemingly accidental death is a murder。 Then Rory begins to uncover a tangle of small-town secrets, favors, and lies as crooked as Texas law is straight。
To get to the truth before more people die, Rory is forced to take liberties with the investigation。 The next ballad of Rory Yates may not be about a hero, but rather an outlaw song。

I enjoyed this book but then again I enjoy almost all of James Patterson’s books。 Rory Yates goes rogue once again and finds himself in a dangerous situation。From the ending I have a feeling there will be another book about this Texas Ranger。

Ranger Rory Yates goes to a bank and manages to foil a robbery in progress, which embarrasses his former colleague who is now his lieutenant, who is taking a bunch of heat for sleeping in the parking lot while all this went down。 Rory is assigned to a small town in Texas to investigate what might or might not be a murder, only to quickly discover things are not what they seem。 This was a thoroughly enjoyable story, with the sequel being much better than the first Rory Yates book Texas Ranger。 Un Ranger Rory Yates goes to a bank and manages to foil a robbery in progress, which embarrasses his former colleague who is now his lieutenant, who is taking a bunch of heat for sleeping in the parking lot while all this went down。 Rory is assigned to a small town in Texas to investigate what might or might not be a murder, only to quickly discover things are not what they seem。 This was a thoroughly enjoyable story, with the sequel being much better than the first Rory Yates book Texas Ranger。 Unfortunately quality wise it's not a masterpiece, but it is an entertaining page turner that won't be one of those memorable books you'll still think about in a year's time。 。。。more

After finishing Texas Ranger, I was very keen to pick up Texas Outlaw straight away and I’m pleased to say it was “the thrilling sequel” that the blurb promised。 Like Texas Ranger, Texas Outlaw has all the ingredients of a good thriller。 Whilst I picked one of murderers early on; which I believe is what the authors wanted, there were some other plot twists that lead to a bombshell revelation at the end that I certainly didn’t see coming and which made for a great ending。One of the things I have always appreciated about Patterson’s writing is his ability to tell a story in a way that I can easily visualise the plot and the characters。 Add this to his natural talent to always be able to drag you in from page one and you’re again left with a book that you can’t put down。Speaking of characters; the sequel saw the return of many of my favourites from Texas Ranger, as well as new ones from Rio Lobo。 Although it might be a small and remote town; it’s chock full of interesting folk and the writers nail the small town personalities。Sequels often don’t live up to the hype, but in the case of Texas Outlaw; the writers have done a great job of taking Patterson’s trademark thriller style, adding an exciting country twist to differentiate it from his other series; before tying it all up and ending Yates’ story in a satisfying manner。 Whilst you could read Texas Outlaw as a stand alone book and still throughly enjoy it, I highly recommend you first obtain a copy of both Texas Ranger and Texas Outlaw and the read them back to back。 To play along with my book bingo and to see what else I’m reading, go to #ktbookbingo and @kt_elder on Instagram。 。。。more

A real heart breakerThe story really lends itself to many more like Cross and Bennett。 I really like the fact that you see the characters in your mind's eye and begin to feel they are real。 A real heart breakerThe story really lends itself to many more like Cross and Bennett。 I really like the fact that you see the characters in your mind's eye and begin to feel they are real。 。。。more

One certainly needs a score card when it comes to books created by James Patterson。 He has so many series on the go, one wonders if he can remember them all。 Now we find a newer series, this one involving the Texas Rangers。 It is book two of the series, though I was not aware there was a previous book。 Not to worry, because reading this one would make anyone want to seek out book one。 Patterson and Bourelle have given us a novel you want to keep reading。 It is typical Patterson action and suspen One certainly needs a score card when it comes to books created by James Patterson。 He has so many series on the go, one wonders if he can remember them all。 Now we find a newer series, this one involving the Texas Rangers。 It is book two of the series, though I was not aware there was a previous book。 Not to worry, because reading this one would make anyone want to seek out book one。 Patterson and Bourelle have given us a novel you want to keep reading。 It is typical Patterson action and suspense that translates into a superior work。 Rory Yates is a Texas Ranger, sent to the small town of Rio Lobo in West Texas。 A popular councilwoman has been found dead。 It seems death was caused by a peanut allergy in something she ate。 Yates and police detective Arianna Delgado seek answers。 It seems they may be elusive because a crooked business owner has the entire town in his hip pocket。 With Rory and Arianna working so closely together, you suspect there might be some sort of relationship in the offing。 Maybe, maybe not, because Rory happens to be dating up and coming country singer Willow Dawes, who is making her mark in the music world。 Rory and Arianna have more important things on their mind, because once the business owners knows the pair are getting closer to the truth about local deaths and a massive drug operation, their days may be numbered。 It becomes a case of just who can you trust as Rory and his partner find death all around them。 The murderous gang hunting them is good at what they do, meaning Rory and Arianna will have to be a little better than that to survive。 Rory is relentless in his pursuit of the truth, and we want to see lots more of him。 Arianna gives us a much needed spark also。 As for Willow, this is a question mark going forward。 Still, it is a must-read book as are the majority of James Patterson masterpieces。 。。。more

Like the first Rory Yates book, Texas Outlaw was a very good read。 It kept my attention and it had a good twist near the end。 I hope there will be more to come。 Knowing the Patterson team there will be。It will be a winner!

I've struggled with James Patterson novels for a while now, however the 'Texas Outlaw' reminded me what a great storyteller he can be。 Rory is a Texas Ranger, who after shaming his boss, gets sent on a naughty boys mission。 He soon gets caught up in small town secrets and uncovers a massive cover up。 It's a fast page turner that I read in a day! The Texas ranger travels to a small town where he is not welcome。 The town claims to be peaceful, but the mysterious death of one of the citizens has a detective requesting a Texas ranger to solve the murder。 Music, love and drugs are play important parts in this sequel。 I hope there is another installment coming soon。

I really enjoyed this story。

Chuck Ledger

Very well done。 Would definitely like to see more books in this series。

Maybe I don’t get out much, but this was the best book I have read in a long time。 I felt invested in the story。 This book had me sucked in, flipping pages to find out what happens next。 The characters were fully developed。 I wanted to know these people and hang out with them。 I guess I need to find more books in this series。

3。5 stars。 A fast-paced, fun read albeit a bit corny at times。 I’m enjoying the Texas Ranger series, will definitely keep going with them。

Kim Harwell Grider

PLOT TWIST!!! I really enjoyed this read!

Mary Comerford

Great book as all james Patterson books

Frann

Not Alex Cross, better than Texas Ranger, (Rory Yates #1)。 I would like more character development in the supporting roles instead of so very many details of firearms。 That being said, I did turn the pages quickly and read them all。

Brandy Lee

Loved this one! Thought I had seen the twist coming but apparently not。

I’m not used to not flying through a James Patterson book。 I know his books all depend on who his coauthor is, but this just plodded for me。 Did I enjoy the story? Yes。 Did I get bogged down? No。 Did I crave reading it? No。 It was decent。 Ok。 No great mystery。 No major suspense。 Just a decent story that progresses steadily。

Love the characters。 I read the first one and was so glad that a 2nd book came out。 Looking forward to #3。 This book is full of excitement from the start。 It's like a good western movie。 A good guy, bad guys (really bad guys) a little romance and bit of a twist I didn't see coming。 Love the characters。 I read the first one and was so glad that a 2nd book came out。 Looking forward to #3。 This book is full of excitement from the start。 It's like a good western movie。 A good guy, bad guys (really bad guys) a little romance and bit of a twist I didn't see coming。 。。。more

Hard to get into the story。 The ending was fairly predictable but pretty good action to help tie the slow start to the predictable end。 Not my favourite Patterson novel。

Melissa

Not too much to say。 Like most Patterson books it is well written and draws you in, even if it is predictable。 A modern western of sorts。 I didn't realize until I finished it is apparently part of a series and not the first。 I appreciate that I don't feel like I missed anything not having read the previous book。 Not too much to say。 Like most Patterson books it is well written and draws you in, even if it is predictable。 A modern western of sorts。 I didn't realize until I finished it is apparently part of a series and not the first。 I appreciate that I don't feel like I missed anything not having read the previous book。 。。。more
